Human Cord Blood Unit (Fresh)

SKU CB-FRSH-1B Category

Product Details

General Description

Human Cord Blood Units (CBU) are a rich source of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) and immune cells. They are collected from the umbilical cord vein immediately after birth using a sterile needle and collection bag containing the anticoagulant citrate phosphate double dextrose (CPD). Excello cord blood units are available fresh and frozen in multiple sizes based on total nucleated cell (TNC) count.

Technical Description

HSPCs are immature cells that have the potential to develop into all types of blood cells, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. They are essential for maintaining the body’s blood supply and immune system.

Cord blood is a particularly valuable source of HSPCs because it contains a high proportion of primitive, undifferentiated cells. These cells are more likely to engraft and proliferate in a patient’s body after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Immune cells are also present in cord blood, including lymphocytes and monocytes. These cells play an important role in the body’s defense against infection and disease.

Cryopreservation is a process of freezing cells to very low temperatures (-135°C or below) in order to preserve them for long periods of time. Cryopreserved cord blood units can be stored for many years without losing their viability and function.

Product Use Examples

Human Cord Blood Units are a valuable resource for HSCT and cellular therapy. They provide a source of high-quality HSPCs and immune cells that can be used to restore and repair the hematopoietic system, treat cancer, and develop new cellular therapies.
